The Engineering School (ISEC) of the Polytechnic Institute of Coimbra (IPC) is a higher education institute located in Coimbra, Portugal, providing technological education in several engineering areas. The Informatics and Systems Engineering Department (DEIS) from this school offers two undergraduate degrees in Computer Engineering.
This department has a young and dynamic staff, involved in many industry and research projects. Some of the instructors from DEIS have been working on their MSc and PhD programs in dependability areas such as pin-level fault-injection, software-implemented fault-injection, concurrent error detection, dependability benchmarking, database management systems dependability, embedded real-time systems, and fault-tolerant control systems.
The cooperation between DEIS instructors and Critical Software in the development of Xception is assumed since the first version of this tool, by providing technical expertise and, particularly, by developing RT-Xception (work by Prof. João Cunha), the realtime version of Xception, targeting a Pentium PC with the SMX real-time executive.
